We can argue the point, but I declare Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak as the company’s most colorful employee (even if he is no longer employed by Apple in any typical sense of the word). Colorful?
Woz has the ability to get his face online in ways other past Apple employees cannot. What Woz says isn’t the most astute or insightful analysis of all things Apple, but he is worth listening to. So long as you don’t listen too long.
What’s the latest?
iWatch. On TV. Well, Wozniak was on video, this time Bloomberg, but if you enjoy silly verbal antics and some healthy tongue-in-cheek (seems that way to me) then Woz won’t disappoint.
Apple Card – “the most beautiful card I’ve ever had in my life.” I wonder if he bought one of those snazzy new Apple Card skins to protect the Card from leather and denim?
Apple Watch #1 – “The Apple Watch has so many pieces that make it so comfortable to me. I can be walking my dog and not have to carry a phone, not have to use a phone.” Indeed, we all need more first world problems.
Apple Watch #2 (literally) – “We’ve got the iWatch [sic] when it’s on LTE cellular… I can text my wife, you know, ‘Walking the dog, Ziggy just pooped,’ you know, whatever…” It remains difficult for me to figure out whether Woz is giving us his version of bazinga or not. I want to think that someone so wealthy and intelligent– technically speaking– could figure out Watch uses beyond telling the wife the dog pooped. Obviously, exercise tracking is a non-issue for Woz.
The Mac – “I go from my computer in a hotel or at home. My computer to do efficient email or whatever and keep up with news going on in the world and then I move to the Watch, and I pretty much skip the phone… I’m not one of these people who wants to be, like, an addict.” Except with food.
Apple – “Steve Jobs and I started this company trying to make blind and sighted people more equal, and we succeeded, because everywhere you go — look on the sidewalk or in front of you in your car in the street — and there’s people walking along not seeing anything except their phone.” Apple must be a success in Woz’s eyes because iMac, iPhone, iPad, and iWatch.
Would anyone pay attention to Wozniak if he was your neighbor but had never been an Apple co-founder? iDoubt it.
